Sometimes, my position gives me the ability to shine a light on burgeoning talent. These sister filmmakers of House of June, Amber and Ebony, are doing the darn thing, creating “unapologetic melanated cinema” on their own terms. I’m so proud to bring them to Spelman College at this magical moment in their blooming. We seek to uplift and nurture and watch some bomb movies, featuring bomb sisters, by bomb filmmakers! Come out, Wednesday, October 19, 6pm to witness “Unapologetic Melanated Cinema,” a short film screening featuring House of June. Panel discussion to follow. Free and open to the public. Reception after the event. Spelman College, Cosby Auditorium.
The Spelman College Department of English and Spelman English Club will host “Unapologetic Melanated Cinema,” a screening of scintillating and spunky short films produced by the independent film house House of June, an Atlanta-based production team highly regarded for creating Black, conscious, feminist, LGBTQ content.
House of June focuses on producing original cinematography and narratives for film and web. Their work has been featured in Shadow and Act, Blavity, The Fader, Creative Loafing and Feminist Wednesday. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion featuring the founders of House of June (Amber Bournett and Ebony Blanding) and a reception. The goal of the screening is to expose students to local, young, Black feminist screenwriters/directors who are creating original content.
The event will take place on Wednesday, October 19 at 6 p.m. in the Camille Olivia Hanks Cosby Academic Center, Auditorium. The GPS address is 440 Westview Drive SW, Atlanta 30314.
